PPJASS

The Pikes Peak Jazz And Swing Society is your window into the jazz world. The monthly newsletter, Pikes Peak Jass Notes, contains information about jazz events and programs, locations of clubs which feature jazz in the Colorado Springs area and other news of interest to the jazz lover.

Second Sunday Jazz Affairs are held monthly and feature a variety of music, jamming and dancing. Admission charges are minimal. Special events and concerts featuring nationally and internationally acclaimed musicians are scheduled regularly.

Outstanding regional high school student/musicians interested in jazz are encouraged through the $1,000 Danny Stevenson Memorial Scholarship awarded annually to a student planning to continue jazz studies in college. Each year the society reviews submissions and auditions high school musicians to find the winner of their $1000 Danny Stevenson Memorial Scholarship. The Springs Contemporary Jazz Big Band also awards a $1000 Bug Barbee Scholarship, bringing the total to $2,000. In 2005 a second place scholarship was added in the amount of $1,000 with $500 each contributed by PPJASS and the Springs Contemporary Jazz Big Band.

Professional musicians are recognized by the Alice Award given annually to an individual who exhibits a high degree of musical talent and experience, and who also possesses those intangible attributes that can only be described as "class."
